As a young boy born in a small farming town in Southern Alberta, I took my first steps, earned my first scars, drove my first car, and fell in love with the outdoors. I have my mother to thank for my observant eye and father for my meticulous approach. It takes dedicated practice to see the little details in the things around us. It's not something we're born with, it's something we have to train, like riding a bike or picking out the harmonies of a song. She would stop and point out the subtle shades of grey in the overcast sky and the delicate patterns in a flowers petal, the sweet smell of the cottonwoods after the rain and the softness of moss beneath our feet. I've been training ever since.
It's easy to get caught up in the seemingly important chaos of life and miss the special moments dancing around us, fading in and out of existence like fireflies in the night. I make it my practice to consciously put my mind on pause and let life play around me, and I think that shows through my photography.
I now reside in Golden, British Columbia which is comfortably nestled between 6 of Canada's most spectacular National Parks. It's easy to find intensely beautiful and wild moments around here. I use "intense" in the most positive sense. I like to think, if life is not intense in some emotional form at least three times a week, you're doing something wrong.
“Fear not intensity; embrace it. Intensity moves and shapes us. It's when our hearts beat with intensity that we truly feel alive.” ~ Unknown
